So yeah. The other forums I go to all have Newbie/Introductions forums. So I thought this place could do with a topic of that sort.

So...

I've been reading LotR for many years now (10, in fact), I'm 20 years old, live in the north east of England when I'm at university and London when I'm not. Reading has always been fun an a great pass time for me, though I also do computing stuff and play guitar.

You guys?

Welcome!

I'm from Poland (from Gorzów Wielkopolski). I've read The Hobbit long time ago (now I'm 18 years old). That was the real beginning of my adventure with J.R.R. Tlkien's masterwork :]

And I also play the guitar and make other stuff conected with art.

hi i have just registered and thought i would introduce myself... i am a grandmother of 3 so not a youngster.....i i have to admit have never read any of the books or seen any of the films  but last thursday was given the opportunity to go to drury lane and see lord of the rings.....i didnt know what to expect and to be honest i wasnt looking forward to it......omg....what an amazing show....i fell in love with all the hobbits, they were so cute and at the start when they were milling about in the audience looking for the twinkly stars was just awesome. from the moment it started you were hooked, the special effects were out of this world, the music was magical, the vocals superb. i now want to read....what shall i start with bearing in mind i am not a great reader i dont have a lot of time and i must say the hobbit appeals as it is a childrens book.....shall i start there or will i get confused ?

Read the Hobbit first. Not only is it a much easier read than the Lord of the Rings, it's also shorter and sets some of the story for the trilogy.

And welcome! Glad to see somebody else here.

hehe, nice nice, I was in similar age when I picked up Hobbit :]

And I recommand to start with The Hobbit - it's kind of beginning of the story, entrance to new world.
I've read Hobbit, then LotR, and then, after Tolkien Bestiary, I started Silmarillion, so I've got to say, that this rotation was perfect for me.

Just try Smiley

I hope the new members to come have better grammar than you, Witch King (no offense, I'm just really picky about that kind of thing).

Also....maybe some slightly more original user names :p

What would you say about us non-English speakers then Alpha? Wink I am Norwegian myself, and my grammar is far from perfect in English.

I'd have to say that both you and Fingolfin have excellent grammar. Especially when you take into consideration that English isn't your native language.

Thanks for that Smiley

Actually I have been talking with Americans since I was 12 - 13 years old. I am 38 now, so I kind of have always used the language. Being nerdish has it's advantages Wink

Aye, I use Alpha most places I go, or AlphaAlec (Alec's my real name). I find it tedious using lots of different screen names on the different places I go.

My standard name everywhere is basicus. I even run a site at www.basicus.com Wink Not that I update that site often though.

My real name is Bjorn Are Solstad. Most foreigners just call me Bjorn Though.
