How many of those have you read?

I own...
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
The Hobbit
Unfinished Tales
The Book of Lost Tales part 1
The Book of Lost Tales part 2
The Lays of Beleriand
The Shaping of Middle-Earth
The Children of Hurin
The Silmarillion

As for those I've read...
I've read the main trilogy about 10 times (I read it once a year) and the Hobbit many times. I've read parts of Unfinished Tales and the Silmarillion. I haven't started any of the History of Middle Earth books, though I certainly will sometime soon. The Children of Hurin is a recent acquisition (I got it for my birthday, which was about a month ago) and I'll read that soon too. There's so much to read... Smiley

I realise this topic may not strictly belong in this forum, but I see not more suitable place for it.

I remember, that I had big delay in reading LotR, because I stopped after Pelennor fields. Then I just forced myself (I was maybe 12/13 years old) and I decide to continue, and after last words of Sam 'Ano, wróciłem' (from polish version) I knew - that was the best book I've read.

So have you only read the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit then?

Also Silmarillion, from the greatest works, and parts from Unfinished tails.

Now I realy have to concentrate on Children of Hurin and other stuff about Turambar, 'cos I will have matura exam (in Poland) in topic 'role of artifacts in character's creation' :]

Sounds good.

I've just started reading the Book of Lost tales 1. It's kinda hard to get into, as I don't really know the context. I'm plugging on with it though now, as I guess as I progress it'll make sense. Especially if I go through the History of Middle Earth books, then read them again, as I tend to do with books I own.

I'm about 100 pages into Book of Lost Tales 1 now. It's hard to get into at first, but it gets really interesting. The coming of the Valar, the creation of races, the being who created the Gods. Amazing!

Also, there's been a mention of the 'Secret Fire', which is cool. If it only rings a bell, then remember that on Kazad-Dum, Gandalf says he's a 'Servant of the Secret Fire' Smiley

Yep, Secret Fire was mentioned in Ainulindale; also - Udun means Utumno (Balrog - 'flame of Udun')

details Smiley
