one thing that kinda gets on my nerves is the fact that all of lord of the rings happens in a Tiny (relatively) area. everywhere the books take us takes up about 1/14th of the total space of Arda.

And yet the distances travelled in Lord of the Rings are well over a thousand miles.

If the trilogy took part over a much larger area than it already does, how much bigger and wide spread would it have to be? I for one never had a problem with other areas that weren't in the trilogy, even if though many were mentioned in passing.

That's what the Silmarrllion, Unfinished Tales and Histories of Middle Earth are for.

when it's so small area, then your mind wants to discover more - it's clear psychology;)

it was like that with me, so I have read Tolkien Bestiary and Silmarillion :]

I wouldn't call it psychology. Just natural curiosity and inquisitiveness.

I only said so because I actually am a psychologist (I'm studying it at university) :p

But yes, you're right about it making you want to pursue his other works.
