Oh that was a good film. It was my first time I've ever been to premiere. It was at midnight, and I was realy looking forward to see it. I was so exited and I've got to say, that Jackson made almost perfectly battle of Helm's Deep (exept adding Haldir with his elves...)

But it was realy ok this part, yeees, my pressiousssssss :]

Yes, the film I thought was excellent. The intro was amazing, such a good way to start. Also, especially interesting to see what happened after Gandalf fell into Kazad Dum from his perspective, not the remaining Fellowship's.

I own the extended dvds of each film. Each comes with 4 discs - 2 of film and 2 of how they made the films. Upon watching the two 'making of' discs for the Two Towers, it's explained why Haldir and his elves were at Helm's Deep. It was to represent some of the last help the elves would ever give to men before passing away to the Undying Lands.

Though if you check the Silmarillion, you find out what actually happens to Haldir. It also reveals he has a son and a grandson Shocked

Getting the extended version is well worth it. You get to see so many things they cut out, and the films end up being a lot longer (RotK ends up being about half an hour longer), and in some cases truer to the books.

Well, compared to the Fellowship, Two Towers and Return of the King have a lot more extra stuff.

If you're copy of the Children of Hurin is the same as mine, then check the family trees at the back. He's there in the House of Hador lineage.

This is assuming it's the same Haldir (though I haven't yet seen anything to suggest against this).

Also, upon checking a source list it turns out Haldir appears in the Lost Road and Other Writings (Book V of the history of middle earth).
